Borrow From Another Library

How it works:

The Chariton Public Library participates in Interlibrary Loan Programs sponsored by the State Library of Iowa.  The Library will request materials for patrons from other Iowa libraries if the material is not in our collection.

  • Patrons must have a current Library card and no outstanding fines or assessments to be eligible for this service.
  • There is a $3 postage fee for this service.  Patrons who fail to pickup the item will be billed the postage fee.
  • A patron may have a maximum of three Interlibrary Loans at one time.
  • Items may be requested from the circulation desk staff.  Once the item arrives, patrons have use of the item for one month.
  • If you borrow a book or movie from another library, BE SURE TO RETURN THAT ITEM TO THE LIBRARY DESK. Please DO NOT put that item in the drop box.

The Library will not request items which have been published within the last 6 months.  Libraries purchase items for their own patrons and those patrons must have access to the items first.  We employ the same policy here, refusing any request of an item on our new book shelf until our borrowers have had the chance to enjoy it first.

In addition, as part of the statewide Open Access program, Chariton Public Library patrons may acquire borrower cards at other Iowa Libraries and checkout materials at those Libraries.  Those materials can then be returned to the Chariton Public Library and will be mailed back to the lending Library at no cost to the patron.
