Use the Genealogy Collection

The library has an extensive collection of genealogical materials including local family histories, cemetery records and other items of interest.

The Laura Curtis Family History Room

The Lucas County Genealogical Society maintains an extraordinary collection of materials pertaining not only to family history, but to local, state and national history and statistics as well.  A lot of the information is in print with an every name index.  If anyone has any questions, please e-mail us at the address below. 

The Chariton and Russell Newspapers are made available on microfilm and have been partly indexed. 

Lucas County Genealogical Society Volunteers are available to assist patrons in utilizing the collection most afternoons, and are often available by appointment or request during the week.  Requests for assistance and information can be phoned or faxed using the Library’s contact numbers, or mailed c/o the Library, or emailed to: lucasgene@hotmail.com

GENEALOGY RESOURCE POLICY

Two adjacent rooms in the lower level of the Library have been dedicated as The Laura Curtis Family History Room.  These two rooms contain genealogical resource materials and equipment owned and operated by the Lucas County Genealogy Society.  The collection includes materials pertaining to family histories, as well as some local, state and national history and statistics.  The Chariton Newspapers are made available on microfilm and are partly indexed. 

All Library Patrons may use these facilities with the permission and/or assistance of society members during regular Library hours.  Lucas County Genealogical Society Volunteers are available to assist patrons in utilizing the collection on most afternoons, and are often available by appointment or on request during the week.  Requests for assistance and information can be phoned or faxed using the Library’s contact numbers, or mailed c/o the Library, or emailed to: lucasgene@hotmail.com

Describe the library's genealogy collection in terms of what it contains, sources of materials and limits of the collection. If it is located in a separate room, include where it is located in the library, the hours it is open and if materials can be checked out.
